- Excellent combat knife
- I had the opportunity to evaluate this piece when it was first released. Johnny Tsai's input created one heck of a tool. The finger choil & rocky mountain tread provide comfort in multiple grips. This knife has a great weight and balance & a fantastic weight. It's burly without being ridiculously heavy. I have found it suitable for most camp chores. Some bushcraft folks have criticized the sharpened back, saying it interferes with tasks like batonning. Well, this wasn't designed as a bushcraft blade. Tops makes a ton of excellent bushcraft knives. I believe the CUMA Evolution was created as a purpose built all-around tool that specializes in combat roles. Knowing what I know about Filipino martial arts & defensive tactics, I would feel very confident in this blade's ability to preserve life & limb in a life or death encounter. This knife sports clean lines and a very decent sheath system. I keep a small lockback knife & waterproof matches in the sheath pocket. Overall, this is one of my favorite Tops knives. For a beefy knife that excels in multiple roles, the Cuma Evolution is a very well rounded knife, with abilities beyond its combat specialty role. (Posted on 3/8/2016)
