The purpose of the Brakimo (pronounced BRAH-key-moe), designed by Joe Flowers, was to be a backup to a machete or to serve as a main camp knife. He runs a survival school of sorts called Bushcraft Global, which takes people of all skill levels into the Amazonian jungle to teach them survival skills. Not just skills specific to the jungle, but a mindset that will serve people regardless of location. He needed a knife that could be the flagship knife of the company and has designed the Brakimo to fit that need.

It has a fairly wide blade profile combined with TOPS’ modified Scandi grind that gives it great cutting and splitting power. The tip narrows dramatically to make it useful for drilling holes for bow-drill fires, blow gun mouthpieces, traps, etc. The simple design is perfect for many different uses. Made with 1095 high carbon steel, it’s easy to maintain the edge while out in the field. We found through testing on the 2015 Bushcraft Global trip that by keeping it dry whenever possible, rust was not an issue.

The word Brakimo comes from the Matis language (which is unwritten as far as we are aware). The Matis is a tribe found in Brazil that was uncontacted by the modern world until 1975-1976. The tribe has a unique way of life that would challenge the survival skills of any survival expert. If you’re lucky enough to participate in a Bushcraft Global adventure, odds are that you’ll get to meet one of these extraordinary people and learn a few of the skills they use to survive daily life in the jungle

Awesome all-round knife
I've been carrying the Brakimo for about a year now. I use it for hiking, camping and fly fishing. I put a 'D' ring and a leather belt loop on the metal belt clasp and carry it dangler style. I really like the well fitted Kydex sheath. This knife does everything I could ask in an outdoor/bushcraft knife. The modified scandi grind works great. The slim handle fits great in my small to medium hand. I like the large lanyard hole on the handle. I don't use fire drills normally but if I was lost and needed a knife for survival the holes would come in handy for fire drill fires. It is 1095 steel so you must take care of it. I use Frog Lube after every trip to keep the rust off. I highly recommend this knife for anyone needing an awesome all-round knife. Review by John (Posted on 8/16/2020)
All around great
Just getting back from an adventurous trip to South Africa, I can easily say this knife is a must. Having been deployed to various parts of Africa and Afghanistan I've made it a habit to bring Tops Knives. They've saved my life when I absolutely needed them to. This last trip, not combat related, revolved around self induced survival. The humidity was nothing terrible so the blade has almost no rust. The blade maintenance was nothing more then five min every night. The edge held up to varying degrees of cutting. The knife was mostly used for fine skill work which the ergonomically designed handle made easy. I did not use it for any type of prying though I believe it could have held up. The Tops Team has really lived up to their reputation with this knife. Review by Joseph (Posted on 7/18/2016)
