River Rat
Complete Handle In Compact Size
When you are floating down a river, suspended on an inner tube with gear space at a premium, you quickly learn what tools actually matter. Designer Julio Diez was on the water with his friend Tito when they passed a dead rat rotting on the muddy bank. That gritty, unforgettable moment inspired the name: the River Rat. It also triggered a design challenge. Diez needed a small, highly packable fixed blade that could ride securely on a wet belt, shrug off constant moisture, and perform when called upon.
Most compact knives force a compromise, leaving you with a tiny handle that causes hand fatigue. The River Rat solves this design flaw by pairing a full-sized G-10 handle with a short, highly maneuverable blade. Originally handcrafted in small custom batches, demand quickly outpaced what Diez could build alone. Now produced in collaboration with TOPS, this production run brings this dependable design to anyone who needs a compact fixed blade knife that performs like a much larger tool.
Its performance comes from these key design elements:
- Full-Sized Handle with Compact Footprint: The black G-10 handle accommodates a secure, full-hand grip to prevent fatigue, while keeping the overall length to a highly carryable 6.5 inches.
- 154CM Stainless Steel with Rough Terrain Finish: This stainless steel construction provides reliable stain resistance, further enhanced by a textured finish that helps protect against wet outdoor environments.
- Modified Sheep's Foot Blade Profile: The hybrid blade shape offers a strong utility tip for opening packages, combined with enough belly for skinning small game or cleaning fish on the shoreline.
This is a tool built for those who value space but refuse to compromise on grip or utility. Whether you are fishing the flats, dressing small game, or carrying it as your daily utility blade, the River Rat provides the peace of mind that only a fixed blade can offer.
Please Note: Although highly corrosion-resistant, the 154CM stainless steel blade should still be cleaned and dried after prolonged exposure to water, dirt, or saltwater. Apply a light coat of oil periodically to maintain the finish and protect exposed steel surfaces. Keep the edge properly sharpened for best performance. Follow all local laws regarding fixed blade carry and use. This tool is designed as a compact utility and outdoor knife, not a heavy-duty prying tool.
