"The onPoint knife is designed as a utility/survival knife. Over the past fifteen years teaching wilderness survival I have tried and used literally hundreds of knives. I have seen every innovation and conversely every gimmick out there. What became clear to me many years ago is that you do not need a huge Rambo-type knife for survival. In fact, most survival tasks require fine motor control and precision, which is very difficult with a large blade. My favorite knives over the past several years have all had short 3" blades.
"Secondly, I prefer to use a knife with a flat grind. Flat grinds tend to slice through wood and other materials easier than any other style. My experience with hollow grinds are that they are more prone to edge chipping, and that some of the survival blades I have used are little more than sharpened crowbars. I consider a flat grind a good trade off between cutting ability and edge strength.
"I prefer high carbon steel, and consider 1095 in particular to be one of the best all around blade steels out there. High Carbon provides an optimal combination of edge holding ability and ease of field sharpening. With the Black Traction Coating on TOPS knives, rust is not an issue. I prefer canvas micarta handles for the grip and strength. This particular knife features a hidden compartment in the handle underneath the grips, so the grips can be removed with a screwdriver.
The sweep of the blade means it can be used for skinning, and the distal taper means it penetrates well for fighting. The onPoint blade is a simple, elegant tool useful in a multitude of situations.
